Using Your SCRAPS

When you make crafts, you always have bits and pieces of materials left over. Here are some creative ways scraps can be used.

Make Smaller Versions
If you can, consider turning your scraps into even smaller creations. For example, I always have little bits of leather and sometimes paper left over when I make journals. I recently started turning those bits into mini journals!

Sell or Donate Your Scraps
There are so many sellers on Etsy that there is bound to be someone who can re-use your scraps. Try posting on their forums to ask if anyone wants your leftovers. There may be sellers that would love to take your scraps and recycle them, or they may have scraps you can use!

Sell Destash
If you have too many odds and ends floating around, you may consider putting them into a destash lot and selling them. Many artists who make altered art, mixed media work, or steampunk designs may have a use for your bits of metal, broken jewelry, odd findings, and old things.

Recycle Paper
You can save bits of paper to be recycled in the traditional sense. Or, turn them into handmade paper or paper beads. Even junk mail and cardboard can be broen down and turned into beautiful, handmade paper. You could also use scraps for paper mache projects.
You can also use paper to make business cards or gift tags.

Have a Kid's Craft Night
All the little bits and pieces you can't use can be perfect for kids crafting. Gather up some glue, paint, paper mache materials, and all your random scraps and bits and turn them into a fun family craft night!

Try your hand at something new!
Use the bits and scraps to experiment with new techniques and design ideas. I had leather and bits left over from making journals, and so I started creating leather jewelry with the small pieces. Using bits to experiment with also means you won't waste something good if you're trying a new technique and mess up.

Fabric & Felt
You can create patchwork designs from small bits of fabric. They can also be turned into coaster, stuffing for other projects, magnets, pins, flowers, etc.
